Team and Role Overview: Swift Internet is embarking on a major wireless network infrastructure upgrading project. The project will require two small teams of hardworking, detail-oriented staff to carry out tower construction and equipment installation at network sites across the Creston Valley. One team will cover more straightforward builds and upgrades. The second team will complete more complex tasks, such as resolving issues found during inspection and testing. Staff will be assigned to an appropriate team after on the job training.

Swift is open to hiring staff without direct experience or training in the wireless industry. Compensation will depend on experience. Any successful candidate will demonstrate a good work ethic, a willingness to learn on the job, technical aptitude, and a capacity for doing challenging physical labour outdoors in a range of weather conditions. There could be the possibility of longer-term employment with full benefits for the right candidates.

Swift will be prioritising the hiring of youth (aged under 30 years) for this project and will provide on-the-job training and mentorship to support younger employees. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Key tasks will include:

  • Site preparation, including assisting tower climbers with ground work and preparation of hanging network equipment on towers;
  • Basic construction, woodworking, metal, and/or low voltage DC electrical work;
  • Network shelter preparation, including installing mounting brackets and other hardware to allow for network equipment installation;
  • Network equipment inventory, including unboxing and equipment inspection;
  • Network equipment preparation,including programming;
  • Network equipment installation, including running network cables, mounting equipment in network shelters, and wiring low-voltage equipment; and,
  • Final site inspection, including site clean-up and photographing completed installations.

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

All candidates must demonstrate:

  • Basic skills for employment, including: punctuality; ability to work with others; ability to work independently; openness to learning new skills; ability to follow directions; and, comfort asking for direction when needed
  • Basic literacy skills, including: numeracy and simple math; reading, writing, and verbal communication; document use and the ability to follow design blueprints; and, digital literacy and computer use
  • Basic construction skills, including: job site safety; and, hand and power tool use
  • Physical fitness, including: ability to work outdoors; ability to work extended hours; ability to lift 50 pounds; willingness to work outdoors in poor weather.
  • Digital and technical aptitude

Ideal candidates will possess training and/or experience in:

  • Programming and networking
  • Wireless network equipment installation
  • Simple  low voltage DC electrical work

Ideal candidates will have valid:

  • BC driver’s license and clean driving record

Swift’s technicians are involved in day-to-day network maintenance and installing equipment at customers’ homes and businesses. As some of the team’s key ambassadors in the community, the ideal candidates will have strong technical aptitude and the willingness to go above and beyond for our customers.

Ideal candidates will have experience in the industry, but Swift will consider hiring based on a combination of background and other factors. Any successful candidate will demonstrate a good work ethic, ability to learn on the job, attention to detail, customer care, and a capacity for doing challenging physical labour outdoors in a range of weather conditions.

  • Network equipment installation and maintenance, including: installing equipment at customer premises; running network cables; wiring low-voltage equipment; and, configuring equipment to optimize customer experience
  • On-site customer service, including: discussing installation and maintenance plans; troubleshooting service issues; reviewing service agreement documents; and, answering general questions about Swift packages, pricing, and operations
